Novus Aquaculture Solutions – Health & Nutrition through Science and Innovation

The production of high quality protein to feed expanding world populations with improving standards of living depends upon continued sustainable growth of aquaculture. Technologies for the farming and husbandry of aquatic organisms are improving reducing ecological footprints while increasing efficiencies of production. Enabled by improved seed supplies, expanding use of higher quality pelleted feeds, and hardworking innovative farmers aquaculture has continued to grow. However, the rate of growth has been constrained by market price fluctuations and associated pressures to reduce production costs on the farm while maintaining feed quality, animal health and performance.

This webinar will introduce Novus’ strategic research and development strategies focusing on fundamental understanding of 1) aquatic animal nutrition, health, immune balance, gut physiology, gut microflora 2) interactions with key pathogens and parasites and 3) practical applications in feedmill and farm production systems.

Health management is a fundamental goal of any animal production system and aquaculture is no exception. At Novus we are making very significant research investments into the development of the next generation of nutritional solutions and supplements aimed at ensuring crop health. One of the keys to overall health and performance is maintenance of a healthy digestive system. Novus programs are focusing on controlling pathogens, enhancing healthy microbial communities and improving physiology through gut environment management or GEM technologies. These include the application of prebiotics, and antimicrobial compounds including essential oil and organic acid blends. Customers are seeing important successes in many areas, from the ability of shrimp to defend themselves against Vibriosis to the enhancement of functional feeds aimed at supporting performance of freshwater and marine fish throughout the production cycle.

Continued sustainable expansion of aquaculture will depend upon improved use of alternative ingredients in aquaculture feeds. Our long term investments into technologies which enable the increased use of traditional and non-traditional protein sources is a key part of our overall research portfolio, based on extensive experience in the application of supplemental amino acids and bio available sources of minerals. Our solutions are embedded in practical holistic feed formulations aimed at reducing costs while maintaining nutritional balance, feed palatability and gut health.
